What 2024 looks like: always leave them wanting less
George Maund is a cross-disciplinary experimental sound and music producer; a composer, performer, multi-instrumentalist, and a DJ for the club and on radio. Based in Liverpool, he has worked with movement practitioners, improvisers, choreographers, video artists and myriad fellow musicians and sound artists in many contexts over twenty years in the city.
In 2016 Maund founded the club night Cartier 4 Everyone in order to host under-represented music artists and DJs from Liverpool and further afield, providing a positive platform for minority music makers as well as the associated overlooked underground subgenres of Global Club Music and Bass Music.
Maund currently operates as a freelance broadcaster and technical producer, revolving mostly around livestream support and with particular focus on hybrid in-person / online-digital events as an area of specialisation.
In the past George held down a DJ residency at the Kazimier Garden while acting as chief events programmer and events producer at that venue and its sibling, the Kazimier Stockroom.

Audio CV: https://soundcloud.com/george-maund
Education: Music & Popular Music B.A. (Hons) at University of Liverpool 2005-2008 (2:1)
Wrote and performed with touring bands 2006-2015: Indica Ritual, Stig Noise Soundsystem, Ex-Easter Island Head (co-founder), a.P.A.t.T., plus myriad other collaborative projects
As a founding member of post-minimalist ensemble Ex-Easter Island Head, George composed, arranged and performed with the group as they reached international acclaim with a highly regarded trio of ‘Mallet Guitars’ LPs: http://www.exeasterislandhead.com
While writing, touring and performing with genre-tag-free progressive music polymaths a.P.A.t.T., George contributed a multi-instrumental role to the record that would become ‘Fun with Music’: https://apatt.bandcamp.com/album/fun-with-music
In a solo capacity, George most recently released a set of recordings culled from hours of experimental improvisation for guitar and laptop (scans badly - but listens interestingly!). He began electronic music production with a ‘computer music’ release for net label Upitup Records. The album remains one of the site’s most popular downloads, and lead to live sets opening for the likes of Ceephax Acid Crew and Sleigh Bells, plus work with producer/musician Kepla: http://www.upitup.com/releases/upfree28
The above project evolved into the alias ‘Big Effigy’, with an approach to practice that empahsised electronic hardware outside of the (computer) box - be it synthesisers, drum machines, samplers, other ‘live’ instruments, or CDJs: https://soundcloud.com/bigeffigy
George returned to the guitar to work on semi-improvised durational performance pieces. A session of his ‘Unicursal’ solo material was recently documented on BBC Radio Merseyside’s Popular Music Show: https://soundcloud.com/unicursal-studio
