Mother Earth was the name of the group of Jacob Chabeaux (drums), James Freeman (bass) and George Maund (guitar) from the late 2000s until mid-2010s.
We rehearsed in semi-squatted buildings and our shared house; gigged in pubs, function rooms and venues of variying degrees of 'officiality', and made two recordings. The first was at Ted Riederer's live-and-direct-to-vinyl art project Never Records, and the second was at the top of the CUC builing in Liverpool's Chinatown.
The music we made as a trio can be classified as 'math rock'.
In the early 2010s Jake moved to London so James and I continued as a duo, Other Earth. We incorporated a sampler to act as drum machine, plus a couple of cheap synthesizers to further fill out the ideas we were having as a three before Jake left. The result was never formally captured but we have a decent enough recording of that set from a club performance. Other Earth stopped writing and performing after James joined Forest Swords as touring bass player.
Other Earth took rhythmic cues from the '80s pop style of New Jack Swing and could be described as synth-rock.
A lot of fun was had creating these splashes of referential/reverential invisible colour. These tracks were produced during bouts of buzzy activity and with a 'more is more' attitude to writing... with a healthy dose of tongue in cheek humour.
